Gluten is the name of the protein that makes up a lot of grains, including wheat, rye, barley, and many others. It is a protein that is found in wheat, but not in other grains. The protein is used to make items like flour, pasta, and beer, or to make foods that are high in protein, like bread and beer.

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t made many errors during his time in the NFL limelight. On the field, the quarterback has been a revelation, propelling his Kansas City Chiefs to the forefront of the NFL. He’s also been near-perfect off the field, developing his brand, earning a lot of money, and avoiding any big blunders. Mahomes, on the other hand, seemed to stick his foot in his mouth by trash-talking Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert at a recent golf event.

Mahomes had to explain his meaning as his unsuccessful effort at verbal warfare rapidly circulated throughout the internet. The Chiefs quarterback clarified that he wasn’t attempting to put his opponent down. On the contrary, he holds Herbert in high regard.

Patrick Mahomes seemed to make some snide remarks about Justin Herbert.

Patrick Mahomes has a very powerful arm, as anybody who has seen him play football will attest. However, in terms of trash talk, he recently tossed a limp duck.

The Chiefs quarterback was on the course at a recent celebrity golf event when he was warned to “look out for Justin Herbert next year.” Mahomes attempted to respond quickly but became tongue-tied, telling the heckler, “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

As you would expect, the remark immediately spread over the internet and became a subject of discussion among football enthusiasts. Some joked that Mahomes was so gifted that he could change metaphysics and see anything if he wanted to believe in it, while others recommended he spend his summer honing his trash talk rather than his passing. A third group, albeit in the minority, believed he had a valid reason for shooting Herbert.

To put things in perspective, the Chargers quarterback had a great first season despite being pushed into the starting role suddenly. In 15 starts in 2020, Herbert passed for 4,336 yards and 31 touchdowns, garnering comparisons to Mahomes and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Many thought Mahomes wouldn’t be stupid enough — or uninformed enough of what the QB accomplished last season — to take a real shot at Herbert when his possible trash talk initially surfaced on social media. The Kansas City Chiefs star, predictably, circled around to clarify that he didn’t intend any offense.

Mahomes told USA TODAY Sports, “I believe that was taken out of context.” “I was trash-talking all those Raiders, Broncos, and Chargers supporters out there. As a player, I hold him in high regard.”

The Chiefs quarterback also highlighted Herbert’s outstanding rookie season and the fact that he’ll be seeing the sophomore for years to come as grounds for not participating in a genuine verbal battle.

“It’s a rare thing for him to come out in Year 1 and perform at that level,” Mahomes said. “There aren’t many men who can do it. And I’m sure I’ll face him in a lot more difficult games in the future. So it was sort of a lighthearted issue that, like most things, blew up on Twitter.”

Early in the 2021 campaign, Justin Herbert will have the opportunity to make a statement.

Justin Herbert will almost certainly have Week 3 of the 2021 NFL season marked on his calendar, even if Patrick Mahomes didn’t hurl any real trash talk his way. His Chargers are scheduled to play the Chiefs in Kansas City at that time.

The Chargers’ value has been rising as oddsmakers and experts have made their early predictions for the next season. The team spent the offseason retooling their offensive line to better protect a rookie quarterback, similar to their divisional opponent. The Bolts may be in contention for a Wild Card spot if Herbert avoids the feared sophomore slump and head coach Brandon Staley improves his team’s defense.

While a Week 3 game is unlikely to have a significant impact on the overall playoff picture, Herbert would make a statement by guiding his Chargers to Arrowhead and winning. If that happens, he’d be completely justified in retaliating against Patrick Mahomes.

But until then, we’ll have to make do with (supposedly) mutual respect.

Pro-Football-Reference provided the statistics.

The Chargers are entrusting Justin Herbert’s Super Bowl dreams to a mad genius who has never played college football.
